Small hermit and soldier crabs in Malaysia and Australia build their homes digging deep holes in the sand. They have a good instinct of how to move sand up during the construction. Down in the holes, the crabs are making sand balls that later gets pushed up to the surface, 2-3 balls at a time. As these sand balls get pushed to the surface they form a kind of sand ball flower or sand ball galaxy (via).
