AWESOME SHELL HOUSE

Of all the unusual buildings I came across , this one really fascinated me. It might be the bright colours, the fantacy-like interior or just because of the fact that it looks like a shell. I was even more intrigued by this whole structure when I read that it is an actual home to actual real-life people, not Spunge Bob Square Pant's home.

A Shell house? Jip, it's exactly that..

The beautiful and surreal Nautilus Shell House was build for a Mexico City couple by Senosiain Arquitectos. It was built to resemble a nautilis shell. The house is put together using a frame of steel-reinforced chicken wire with a concrete spread over it, resulting an earthquake proof structure. The couple is currently living in the house togehther with their two small children.

These pics could not be ignored by someone like me, always on the look-out for interesting and unique stuff on the web. This replica of the ancient Stonehenge is just superb in so many ways! I bet that if the Fridgehenge installation gets discussed in art classes it can lead to deep theoretical discussions and open conclusions.

The fridgehenge might be a methaphor for, or a parody of modern society...It sure is open for discussion...

Fridgehenge exists outside of Sante Fe, New Mexico. It is constructed out of junked refrigerators. The site was created by the artist Adam Jonas Horowitz.

The site no longer exists, all fridges have been removed after a complaint, confirmed on
5 August 2008.

These acrylic tanks are fully functional, impact resistant and stronger than china. They are completely separate from the toilet tank and are designed to fit directly against the companion tank reservoir. Both fresh water and salt water can be added.

Surf's up!

The world’s first commercial wave farm went live at the end of September in Agucadoura, located off the coast of northern Portugal.

A 'Wave Farm' has nothing to do with surfing...sorry dudes! It is actually stuctures that generate electricity with hydraulic rams driven by waves. These things have the capability to give power to 15 000 homes!

As the waves roll in past the device, each section is driven up and down, while the hydraulic rams inside resist the motion. This resistance pumps high pressure fluid through hydraulic motors, which drive electric generators, thereby producing electricity. This electricity is then transmitted via underwater cables to the mainland.

There is a downside to these wave farms...factors like wind & weather play an important role, because of the unreliability of these wave farms, the power they generate is not in demand.

However it still is an exiting renewable resource!

BRIAN DETTMER'S UNBELIEVABLE BOOK AUTOPSIES

American artist, Brian Dettmer, creates three-dimensional sculptures by carving into books with the use of scalpels, tweezers and other medical instruments. The end result is a complex sculpture with hidden meanings and interpretations.

PUGGLE BABIES

Cute as a button!

Baby Echidnas (spiny anteaters) are reffered to as 'puggles'. They are found mainly in New Guinea and Australia, and together with echidnas, and the the platypus, they are egg-laying mammels (monotremes).
The long-beaked echidnas have tiny spines on their tongues that help capture their meals.

Jason Hackenwerth's balloon art is incredible!

Hackenwerth’s material of choice is balloons. He blows up hundreds of balloons and strings them together in unusual forms to create artwork that resembles an array of colourful and strange animals, insects or aliens. Like all balloons they slowly deflate over time and therfore it adds another dimension to his work.

He definately brings a new meaning to the term 'Pop Art'.
